MOSSI FALL 2024 COLLECTION

Mossi Traoré has consistently dazzled his audience with fashion journeys that are nothing short of extraordinary. Recently, he expanded his sartorial explorations even further, traveling to India as part of a prestigious presidential delegation, alongside France’s new Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati. Despite the political undertones of one of his protest-themed T-shirts—criticizing global political maneuvering—Traoré isn’t primarily a political figure. His true passion lies in showcasing the significance of Mossi couture on the global stage.

In his latest collection, Traoré doubled down on his vision, presenting 30 looks that encapsulated the very reasons he fell in love with couture. The collection featured fluid tailoring, rich brick-colored knits, and a tribute to South Korean artist Lee Bul, all woven with deep emotion. The designs unfolded in three distinct chapters, each representing a different emotional state—anger, sadness, and hope.

A hallmark of Traoré’s work is his commitment to sustainability. This season, he demonstrated this by using a vibrant green fabric with versatile accents, sourced from Indian artisans. Additionally, he employed eco-friendly materials such as milk casein fiber for delicate pleating and recycled wool from old cushions and mattresses. Even discarded sketches found new life as prints in his collection. Among the innovative pieces were a sliced and wrapped perfecto jacket and a pleated cocoon-like gray overcoat. However, it was the simpler designs that made the most powerful statements, like a pair of black trousers with an overskirt, a green pantsuit paired with a matching crossbody bag, and Japanese denim meticulously pleated.

Traoré often emphasizes the importance of rediscovering the past to create something new. This philosophy is evident in his approach to fabrics, like repurposing materials that were once mattresses, and in his efforts to introduce a new generation to the work of Madame Grès—a name he hopes will become as familiar as contemporary cultural icons. In a world that often feels chaotic, Traoré’s collection offered moments of grace and reflection, reminding us of the enduring beauty of couture.
