UMA WANG SPRING/SUMMER 2025

The venue for uma wang show, set in the hallowed surroundings of The American Cathedral, enhanced the profound artistic significance of the collection. uma Wang showcased delicate, sculptural pieces that commanded attention from every viewpoint, each garment crafted with a focus on form and texture that evoked Brancusi’s style. She utilized pleated silks reminiscent of Fortuny, rigid waxed fabrics, and reversed jacquards to fashion dresses and gowns that flowed over the body with a sense of poetic elegance. Certain creations featured hip-bustling gathers, asymmetric draping, sweeping trains, and ruffles swirling with the dynamic energy of a Brancusi sculpture.

For Uma Wang spring/summer 2025, inspired from Simplicity is complexity resolved, according to Constantin Brâncusi who mastered the art of taking away, to the point he almost let matter fly. Focusing on what remains once the fodder of decoration and the unnecessary distractions are taken away, a collection of complexities resolved into silhouettes arises. Radical reduction: fabric and gestures, gestures and lines. Lines that occupy space, that protrude into it and become three-dimensional. Silhouettes that redesign the contours of the body: enhancing hips, reclaiming air. Forms that are molded around the body to move with it.

Repetition through different fabrics allows shape to unfold a spectrum of sentiments and expressions, looking for ways to solve complexity. Fabric with both weight and lightness. Waxed, washed. Jacquards used in reverse. An expansion of earthy neutrals from gesso to tobacco. A sudden burst of washed out red. The process is the product. The quest to solve complexity continues, endlessly.
